SIMPLICITY is the SOUL of EFFICIENCY

about the material

We keep being asked wether the housing of our etzMAX is made of Aluminum which appears to be a key argument for many grinder-interested-coffee-enthusiasts. Yes, it is .. but probably for different reasons than people might think and not because we consider aluminum the greatest material. In various kind of applications there`s just no need and no advantage in using aluminum even though a lot of people seem to believe that it makes a product more valuable, solid and resistant. Well, it doesn`t (although it does make it more expensive).
COMPOSITE MATERIAL (like fiberglass- and carbon-reinforced plastic) is used in the automotive, aeronautical and aerospace industry for its many benefits towards aluminum. The Dreamliner has an aluminum share of 20% only, the rest is made of composite material. Not only is it lighter, doesn`t corrode, is easier to process/manufacture and less expensive but just as durable.
Christian very much believes in FRP (and CRP) as one of the top materials to be used for grinders as well ... always provided that it is expertly engineered. Our handles are made of 50% FRP. For this kind of usage it`s simply the smartest choice while aluminum might be too brittle and therefore break before FRP does.
To us as an advanced, pioneering engineering company, aluminum is sort of "Old School". Designing our etzJET (=grinding mechanism) based on a turbine has pretty well revealed the way we think and work. Reduce it all to the max, disregard old conventions and redundant procedures, stay committed to the result only!
Why aluminum cast for our housing?
The weight aids the weighing procedure, it`s sound-absorbing and less static. AND .. we like the look of it which is why our standard version doesn`t come in any color but "raw aluminum".
